ACEPRIL
Drug class Description :

ACE inhibitors.

Generic Name :

Captopril - hypertension/diabetes

Drug description :

12.5 mg, white scored capsule- shaped tablet marked ACE and 12.5; 25 mg, 50 mg white scored tablets marked ACE and tablet strength.

Presentation :

Tablets, captopril 12.5mg , 25mg , 50mg .

Indications :

Mild to moderate hypertension. Severe hypertension where standard therapy is ineffective or inappropriate. Diabetic nephropathy in insulin dependent diabetes.

Adult Dosage :

Mild to moderate hypertension
 Initially 12 .5 mg twice daily. Maintenance, 25 mg twice daily increasing gradually at 2 - 4 week intervals if necessary to maximum 50 mg twice daily.

Severe hypertension
Initially 12.5 mg twice daily increasing if necessary to maximum 50 mg three times daily. Diabetic nephropathy, 75 - 100 mg daily in divided doses.

Child Dosage :

Contact manufacturer.

Contra Indications :

  • Obstruction
  • Pregnancy
  • lactation.

Special Precautions :

Renovascular hypertension
severe congestive heart failure. Haemodialysis.

Renal impairment
monitor renal function, white cell count and urinary protein before and during therapy.

Collagen vascular disease
Anaesthesia. Elderly.

Interactions :

  • K+-sparing diuretics or K+ supplements
  •  NSAIDs
  •  vasodilators
  •  clonidine
  •  allopurinol
  •  procainamide
  •  probenecid
  •  immunosuppressants
  •  lithium
  •  antidiabetic agents
  • neuroleptics
  •  tricyclic antidepressants
  • antihypertensives.

Adverse Reactions :

  • Neutropenia
  • Agranulocytosis
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Anaemia
  • Proteinuria
  • Hypotension
  • Angioedema
  • Rash
  • Loss of taste
  • Pancreatitis
  • Tachycardia
  • Gastric irritation
  • Cough (rare).
